Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Primary Care Update

Participants will review 2024 American Diabetes Association Guidelines, review the array of medications/treatment modalities as well as engages in a series of Knowledge Challenge Questions. This program will assist the Nurse Practitioner in obtaining the skill set needed to do risk assessment and assign goals, develop treatment practices, to best treat patients for dyslipidemia.


Prescribing in Primary Care: Clinical vignettes and curiosity

In this presentation leaners will be exposed to case studies reviewing complex presentations, differential diagnosis, and appropriate vs. inappropriate medication choices. Topics presented include understanding pharmacologic action of medications, atypical presentations, and dosage considerations. Contraceptive Update 2024: The CDC MEC Contraception Guidelines and More

In this dynamic presentation Dr. Mimi Secor DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, presents current challenges and trends in contraceptive management in 2024. Learners will understand medical eligibility criteria and the latest contraceptive research for prescribing considerations. Unique patient considerations, efficacy, patient needs, and other critical prescribing points are reviewed.


Polypharmacy: Understanding Interactions, Adverse Reactions, and Deprescribing

Sixty six percent of all adults in US are in at least one medication. Many of our patients are on multiple medication, and often by multiple providers. As patients age, there are higher risks of drug drug interactions and side effects. This session will focus on medications to monitor and mitigate risks. We will look at common interactions, adverse reactions and how to deprescribe and when.


Precision Medicine for Trauma & Stressor-Related Disorders

Updated diagnostic criteria and disease models for trauma and stressor-related disorders are reviewed. Neurobiological and epigenetic mechanisms that underlie stressor-related symptoms are presented as the basis for therapeutic interventions. Specific attention is given to the formulation of rational, genomically-informed pharmacologic treatment approaches for trauma and stressor-related disorders. Practical applications for nurse practitioners are presented.

Discuss epidemiology of STIs in US. Explain diagnostic work- up for STIs. Describe the Management of the most common STis in women including Herpes, CT/GC, PID, Cervicitis, HIV, Sexual Assault.


Pharmacologic Management of Thyroid Disorder

This presentation will describe the process for arriving at a diagnosis (using laboratory values and clinical presentation) of thyroid disorder. Medication management strategy will be discussed including initial prescribing and follow-up titration.


Pharmacologic Management of Vasomotor Symptoms in Menopause

Case-Based Approach to Hypertension Management: Combination Therapy is Essential

Lecture, discussion, and case study presentation, assisted by computer generated visual effects, will be designed to assist the primary care provider with the early identification of patients at risk for target organ damage from hypertension, classes of antihypertensive medications designed to attenuate/avoid target organ damage, and mechanisms to evaluate impact of these medications and their potential adverse effects. This will be an uplifting, hands-on participation activity where we will discuss practical and holistic ways to recognize and reduce polypharmacy in the geriatric population, including shared decision-making and the importance of brown bag medication reconciliation when we have limited time with our patients. Cytochrome P450 Metabolism: Implications for Prescribing

Adverse drug effects are one of the most common reasons for poor, dangerous patient outcomes, and a common reason for malpractice actions. This presentation covers the most common mechanism by which drugs are metabolized in humans: The cytochrome P450 enzyme cascade. Dr. Miller presents this complex content in a way that is easy to understand and apply in as an important mechanism to maintain safe, effective prescribing.


Opioids In Primary Care: Keeping It Between the Lines

Opioid prescribing has been highly scrutinized in the US over the last 10 yrs. Yet, patients continue to present to primary care with complaints of pain. Opioids remain a cornerstone of treatment. This session will focus on how and when it is appropriate to prescribe opioids in primary care.


Pharmacological Management of Heart Failure

The talk will discuss the latest guidelines for treating adults with chronic heart failure (HF). Focus will be on how to optimize guideline-directed medical therapy in these complex patients. Strategies will be provided for ways to overcome barriers to medication titration, including when to refer to a HF specialist.


Recognition and Management of Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders: An Update on Evidence-Based Strategies

Healthcare providers in the United States are well positioned to recognize substance use in their patients. Providers are also key in taking steps to address issues of substance use before it escalates to abuse. Unfortunately, substance use and abuse in adolescents remains undertreated in the United States. Early intervention in adolescents with substance use/abuse disorders is crucial in averting economic cost in this population group. This presentation will review treatment options for adolescents who present with various types of substance use disorders. Motivators for seeking treatment as well as gender and ethnicity will also be addressed. Barriers to treatment will also be discussed.


Addressing Men’s Health Issues – Talking Erectile Dysfunction and Testosterone Replacement Therapy

In this session we will be highlighting the evaluation, treatment options and management of erectile dysfunction and hypogonadism – two of the most common men’s health issues


Pediatric Pharmacotherapeutics: Children are NOT little adults

This session will provide a history of the development of pediatric pharmacotherapeutics. Cases from history with unintentional bad outcomes from pediatric prescribing will be discussed. Strategies to prevent common pediatric errors will be reviewed. Last, new indications and medications approved to treat children will be discussed.


Adult Immunization Update 2024

This is a up to date and in depth session discussing the current guidelines for the adult immunization schedule. Discussing the current evidence supporting the need for immunizations and the numbers of illness in the US. Risks and Benefits of immunizations, and myths surrounding immunizations. Every year updated vaccination schedules are provided to guide immunization practices. Keeping up with these updates is often difficult. Family Nurse Practitioner and Owner; Wright & Associates Family Healthcare

Wendy received her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2019 from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. She is a 1992 graduate of the Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and completed a family nurse practitioner post-master’s program in 1995. She is an adult and family nurse practitioner and the owner of two, nurse practitioner owned and operated clinics within New Hampshire named: Wright & Associates Family Healthcare. Her family practices have won numerous awards, including Top Providers in New Hampshire 2018, Top 20 Fastest-Growing Family Business, and Top 20 Women-Owned Business in New Hampshire. In addition, she is the Owner of Partners in Healthcare Education, a medical education company. She is the Past President of NPACE and the Senior lecturer for Fitzgerald Health Education Associates.

She is the recipient of numerous awards and was chosen by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as the 1999 recipient of the New Hampshire State Excellence Award. In addition, she received the 2009 NH Nurse Practitioner of the Year and the 2014 Top 5 Women in New Hampshire Business Award. In 2005, she was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; in October 2014, a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and in March 2017, a Fellow into the National Academies of Practice.

She is the founder of the NH Chamber of Entrepreneurial Nurse Practitioners, an organization designed to assist nurse practitioners with independent practice issues. In addition to full-time clinical practice, she presents nationally to different audiences and has been a speaker at over 1000 conferences in 47 states. She is the nurse practitioner representative to the State of NH Immunization Advisory Board. She has been a medical media spokesperson for numerous companies and has appeared on radio, television, and in print magazines. Wendy is frequently consulted by malpractice attorneys around the area of clinical practice and has worked on more than 100 malpractice cases involving nurses and nurse practitioners.


Sally K. Miller, PhD, APRN, FAANP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, AGPCNP-BC

Dr. Sally Miller has been practicing as a nurse practitioner for 29years. She is board certified as a family NP, Adult/Geriatric Acute and Primary NP, and Psych/Mental Health NP. Dr. Miller is a clinical professor with Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions. She maintains an active clinical practice with iCarePsychiatry. Sally has published over 30 research and clinical articles with emphasis on issues related to adult health and illness as well as obesity. She has been an active conference presenter and author in the NP community since 1996.


Gary Graf, MSN, ARNP-C, Family Nurse Practitioner (BC)

Gary Graf is a Nurse Practitioner from Topeka, Kansas. He started practicing Family Medicine for 3 years but has done Diabetes and Endocrinology for the past 20 years. For 21 years he simultaneously did Urgent Care on weekends. He has been the Sub-Investigator in over 350 clinical trials in the field of Diabetes, Hypertension, Diabetic Kidney Disease as well as many Cardio-Vascular Outcome Trials. He has inserted over 350 implantable continuing glucose monitors. He and his wife have ten children and eight grandchildren. His hobbies include camping and fishing. He has climbed 50 of the 58 Colorado 14ers.


Kathy Baldridge, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAIPM

Kathy Baldridge is a family nurse practitioner in Pineville, La. She is the director of psychometric analysis at Advanced Practice Education Associates, a nurse practitioner education company. She is a goal directed, results-oriented professional with a strong clinical background and education. Dr. Baldridge is the author of Coding & Billing in the Outpatient Clinical Setting: A quick guide and has authored and coauthored multiple journal articles and book chapters, including content in the 3rd and 4th editions of Clinical Practice Guidelines in Primary Care. In addition, she has served as an editorial reviewer for the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (JAANP) for more than 4 years. She has presented numerous lectures and courses at the local, state, and national level. Dedicated to the advancement of Nurse Practitioners, she has served on the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners board of directors in various positions and is currently the president of the association.

She earned her ADN from Louisiana State University, Alexandria in 1993; her BSN (2006) and MSN (2009) from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA; and her DNP from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in 2013. Dr. Baldridge is the recipient of the AANP Award for Excellence and was inducted as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in 2017. Passionate about caring for others, Dr. Baldridge remains in clinical practice serving the Central Louisiana area.


R. Mimi Secor, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN

Dr. Mimi Secor is a Nurse Practitioner, National Speaker/ Educator, and Senior Faculty with Advanced Practice Education Associates in Lafayette, Louisiana. Her current passion is helping NPs become Healthy and Fit! Related to this new passion, she is a #1 International Best Selling author of a new book, Debut a New You: Transforming Your Life at Any Age.

She has worked for 43 years as a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in Women's Health and more recently, Health/Fitness. In 2015, Ms. Secor earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah where she received the Student Service Award for her contributions to the NP profession.

Ms. Secor is a guest lecturer at NP programs in New England and around the country. She has also published extensively, including the 4th edition of her 2018 co-authored textbook, Advanced Health Assessment of Women; Skills and Procedures, and the 2nd edition of her 2018 co-authored textbook, Fast Facts About the Gynecologic Exam for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and Midwives.

She has also been a guest on Good Morning America, interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe and many others. Mimi has received several awards, including in 2018 being selected by her peers as one of the Top 10 NPs in the US, the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (MCNP), and the 2015 Student Service Award from Rocky Mountain University for her contributions to the NP profession. In addition to being a fellow in the AANP, in 2018 she was inducted as a fellow in the prestigious America Academy of Nursing.


Brett Snodgrass, FNP-C, CPE, FACPP, FAANP

Brett Badgley Snodgrass has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for 12 years, practicing in multiple settings including: family practice, urgent care, emergency departments, administration, chronic pain and palliative medicine. She is currently the Palliative Medicine Clinical Coordinator for the Baptist Healthcare System in Memphis, TN. Her primary focus is expansion of the palliative medicine program into other hospitals of the Baptist Healthcare System, as well as expanding the current program into the outpatient setting.

She is also the owner of BBS Health Education – where she creates and presents continuing education for healthcare providers, both live and online (BBSHealthEducation.com). Brett Is a chronic pain expert, working for more than 20 years with chronic pain patients in a variety of settings. She has opened and directed two chronic pain practices. She also serves as a co-chair of the TN Access To Care Coalition. She is board certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, where she is the past TN State Representative. She is also a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Brett received the 2015 AANP State Excellence Award for Tennessee for her work across the state on the TN Chronic Pain Task Force, as well as advocating for TN Full Practice Authority for Nurse Practitioners. She was also awarded the 2017 Memphis Business Journal Healthcare Hero Award.


Charitta Ernewein, PhD, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, SANE-A

Charrita Ernewein, PhD, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, SANE-A is a family nurse practitioner and specializes in pediatrics. She is an Assistant Professor at The University of Tampa and works for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Dr. Ernewein completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1988, her Master of Science at South University in 2013 and her Doctoral Nurse Practitioner in 2016 at South University in Tampa, Florida, and her PhD at University of Central Florida in 2021. Dr. Ernewein holds a national certification with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.

Dr. Ernewein is a strong advocate within the community working closely with professional organizations and community resources regarding the topics of human trafficking and vulnerable populations. Dr. Ernewein id the Director of Community education with The FREE Network. She is also published in the Journal of Nurse Practitioners, Human Trafficking: Recognition, Referral and Treatment. Her dissertation focused on “Survivors of Human Trafficking and their Reintegration into the Community”.

Dr. Ernewein is the President of the Tampa Bay Advanced Practice Nurse Council Group, a member of American Academy of Nurse Practitioner, a member of the Black Nurses Association, and a member of the National Association of School Nurses.


Deborah Adell, PhD, ARNP

Dr. Adell has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for 28 years, with a majority of experience in rural and underserved populations. She has been developing pharmacology courses and teaching for 25 years and is a published author on pharmacology topics. Dr. Adell is active in developing and teaching in the first advanced practice program in Saudi Arabia.


Justin Dubin, MD

Dr. Justin Dubin is a Urologist who specializes in Men's Health at Memorial Healthcare System in South Florida. Justin grew up in Wayne, NJ and graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2010 with a BA in Biology and Minor in Entrepreneurship and Management. He attended Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson for medical school then completed his training in Urology at the University of Miami in 2021 and his Andrology fellowship at Northwestern University in 2022. Dr. Dubin is passionate about men’s health and education with the goal of improving both the lives of men and their partners. He has published multiple papers on both male infertility and sexual health, has been quoted in the NY Times, Insider, GQ, The Cut, USA Today, and Men’s Health and is the current co-host of the men’s health podcast Man Up: A Doctor’s Guide to Men’s Health through which he hopes to destigmatize men's health topics and motivate men to improve their overall lives.


Leslie L. Davis, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FAANP, FACC, FAHA, FPCNA

Dr. Leslie Davis is a full-time faculty member of the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She maintains a part time nurse practitioner(NP) practice with the Division of Cardiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Davis is a fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Collège of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association. She is also a certified hypertension clinician through the American Society of Hypertension. As a clinician, she focuses her care on adults with hypertension, heart failure, and acute coronary syndromes. Her research interests include self-care and symptom management with women who have experienced cardiovascular conditions. She has served as editor for the book Cardiovascular Nursing Secrets (2004), as guest editor for two special cardiovascular editions in the Journal for Nurse Practitioners (2013 and 2019), has authored/coauthored articles 35+ papers in peer-reviewed journals, 13 book chapters, and other scholarly products related to cardiovascular topics.

As a nurse practitioner, Dr. Davis sees patients with difficult to control high blood pressure in the UNC Hypertension Clinic, where a multidisciplinary approach utilizes both lifestyle modification and medications, as well as investigative techniques, to treat hypertension. She also sees patients in the general cardiology clinic and the UNC Heart and Vascular Center.
